President Marcos, is there something you ought to return?

It turns out it isn’t just VP Sara Duterte who owes the country big time

On board a plane, surveying widespread damage caused by a typhoon, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. belies accusations he is politicizing the budget of his estranged Uniteam running mate, Vice President Sara Duterte.

“That process is well-established. It has nothing to do with politics,” says Marcos, referring to the congressional budget panel’s insistence that the intransigent veep answer their questions, or else face consequences.

After all, it was the Commission on Audit itself, an independent constitutional body, that disallowed P73 million in Duterte’s previous confidential funds which, in effect, requires her to return it to the government.

Well. The Supreme Court just recently declared that the half-million-square-meter Paoay property in Ilocos Norte, which includes the opulent Malacañang of the North, does not belong to the Marcos family. Therefore, the government has every right to take it back.

In this episode, Rappler senior multimedia reporter Lian Buan walks us through the ins and outs of the controversy and the High Court’s decision, and asks the ultimate question: Will Marcos authorize the government to recover the massive property from his family? – Rappler.com
