Marcio Lassiter becomes the all-time PBA leader in career three-pointers as he breaks the previous record set by Jimmy Alapag in 2016

MANILA, Philippines – The quest to become the all-time PBA leader in career three-pointers is over for San Miguel star Marcio Lassiter.

And he is just glad to finally get the job done after months of anticipation as Lassiter aims to turn his unadulterated attention to helping the Beermen achieve their ultimate goal, which is to rule the Governors’ Cup.

“For the past months, you guys were putting that number up so many times,” Lassiter told reporters on Sunday, September 15. “Now that I got it over with, I can really just focus on the team.”

“I’m always about the team. Team first. I’m just so happy that I did it.”

Lassiter broke the previous record of 1,250 triples set by Jimmy Alapag in 2016 as he fired six treys and finished with 18 points in a 131-82 mauling of Barangay Ginebra on Sunday.

On fire from the get-go, Lassiter eclipsed Alapag with his third three-pointer of the game, pulling up from beyond the arc on a fast break with 7:11 minutes left in the opening quarter.

Lassiter hit another triple to end the period and sank two more for the rest of the game as he shot 6-of-8 — a performance that encapsulated his superb three-game stretch which also saw him surpass legend Allan Caidic in the list.

For the last three games, Lassiter made 15 of his 27 three-point attempts combined for an impressive 56% clip.

His six treys against the Gin Kings set the tone in the 49-point blowout, which is the biggest win margin in San Miguel franchise history.

But even as the spotlight shone on Lassiter, he still deflected the credit to the entire team.

“Could not do it without my teammates and coaches, who put me in this position” said Lassiter. “They gave me the confidence and trust.”

Riding on a four-game winning streak and sitting atop Group B with a 6-2 record, Lassiter and the Beermen seek to continue piling up wins in their bid to capture the Governors’ Cup crown they last won in 2015. – Rappler.com
