Thanks to the late-game heroics of Stanley Pringle, Terrafirma ends its seven-game losing streak for its first win of the PBA Governors’ Cup at the expense of league-leading TNT

MANILA, Philippines – After dropping its first seven games, Terrafirma finally found its way into the winning column of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Thanks to the late-game heroics of Stanley Pringle, the Dyip completed a stunning 84-72 upset over the league-leading TNT Tropang Giga at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Thursday, September 19.

Pringle dropped 13 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 straight in the final six minutes, as Terrafirma not only secured its first victory of the Governors’ Cup, but also captured its first win against TNT since 2016 despite playing minus its main gunners Christian Standhardinger and Juami Tiongson due to injuries.

The Dyip — who are already out of playoff contention — also played without their import Antonio Hester in the crucial stages of the ball game as he went down with an apparent left wrist injury at the 6:55 mark of the fourth quarter.

“Even though we are outnumbered, only 9 to 10 players are available, we still kept fighting for our first win and we got it tonight,” said Terrafirma head coach Johnedel Cardel.

After staring at a nine-point deficit in the early goings of the fourth quarter, the Dyip unleashed a quick 10-0 run to overtake the Tropang Giga, 60-59, off a three-pointer by Pringle.

Both teams exchanged baskets in the next three minutes of play and with Terrafirma ahead by only 3 points, 69-66, Pringle completely took over and scored the Dyip’s next 10 points to give them a comfortable 79-70 edge with only 1:39 left.

“I was a little hurt in this game. My knee was acting up a little bit from all the games, back-to-back,” said Pringle.

“I just came in really at the end, played hard at the end, and got the win,” he added.

Before exiting the game with the injury, Hester had 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting and 10 rebounds to pace the Dyip.

Pringle knocked down 6 of his 11 field goal attempts to reach 18 points, while Louie Sangalang also finished in double-digit scoring for Terrafirma with 10.

Terrafirma overcame a near triple-double performance by TNT import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who posted 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 steals.

The Dyip also survived a 23-point explosion by Roger Pogoy as they handed the Tropang Giga only their second loss in nine games in Group A.
