Villafuerte clan seeks various Camarines Sur posts in 2025 polls

PILI, CAMARINES SUR — Members of the Villafuerte family, a known political clan in Bicol, filed on Tuesday their certificates of candidacy (COC) for various posts in Camarines Sur for the 2025 elections in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the provincial capitol.

The Villafuerte family was among the local personalities in Bicol who filed their COCs at the start of the schedule set by Comelec that runs from Oct. 1 to 8.

Second District Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte, on his third and final term in Congress, is vying for the gubernatorial seat in Camarines Sur, a post he used to occupy in successive terms from 2004 to 2013.

His son, incumbent Camarines Sur Gov. Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte, filed his candidacy to take over as the 2nd District Representative. He was accompanied by his girlfriend actress Yassi Pressman.

Meanwhile, Miguel Luis Villafuerte seeks reelection for his second term as the Camarines Sur 5th District Representative.

Adding to the lineup is actor Marco Gumabao, who is entering the political arena for the first time. He filed his COC for the 4th District Representative post under the Villafuerte-backed slate.

The Villafuerte family has maintained a stronghold in Camarines Sur politics for decades. They are running under the banner of the National Unity Party (NUP).

“We are inspired by the overwhelming support of the public, and we intend to repay it through our love, services, programs, and projects that will benefit everyone,” said “LRay” in an ambush interview with reporters after filing his candidacy.
