MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday said that he is eyeing a Senate comeback to fight corruption in government.
“Ang makikita nila ‘yong paglaban natin sa korapsyon, mga nagnanakaw sa ating gobyerno at inumpisahahan natin yan nung nasa Senado tayo at may mga napakulong na rin tayo na sangkot sa korapsyon,” Pacquiao said in an ambush interview after he filed his certificate of candidacy.
(What they will see is my fight against corruption, the ones who steal from our government and I started it when I was in the Senate and we have sent to jail some individuals involved in corruption.)
Pacquialo also said that he is envisioning a legacy where he can be remembered for his public service.
“Marami pa akong babalikan na investigation dyan sa corruption, hindi pa tapos… Ang pinapangarap kong legasiya, gagawin at gagawin ko na maproteksyonan at maalala tayo ng masa at sunod pang henerasyon sa ating serbisyo,” he added.

(I will have more investigations on corruption, it’s not yet done… A legacy I dream of is protecting and making sure the public and the future generations remember me for my public service.)

Pacquiao is among the 12 senatorial candidatrs that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently endorsed.
Pacquiao also ran for president in 2022 elections and placed thirdin the 10-man race.
He said that what also motivated him to run for the Senate again is that he sees it as a necessity.
“Kailangan, kailangan kasi nakikita ko. Kawawa ang mga Pilipino. Walang nagtatanggol sa kanila. Masakit isipin na ang politics sa Pilipinas ginagawang business, hindi naman lahat pero karamihan, halos karamihan,” he noted.
(It is a need because I can see it. The Filipinos are pitiful. No one fights for them. It hurts to think that the politics in the Philippines is treated as a business, not all, but most of them.)
