COTABATO CITY — Several members of the Hataman political clan in Basilan province are up against each other in the 2025 midterm elections.

On Monday, House Deputy Minority Leader and Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman filed his certificate of candidacy for governor, along with his running mate, Alzad Sattar, a respected Islamic scholar and religious leader.

Seeking to replace Hataman in the lone House seat of the province is his longtime ally, Maluso town Mayor Hanie Bud.

Hataman is running under the Liberal Party, which has an alliance with the local Basilan Unity Party. He will be up against his nephew, lawyer Jay Hataman, an incumbent board member.

Gov. Hataman’s other son, Isabela City vice mayor Kifli Hataman, is gunning for mayor, expectedly pitting him against Rep. Hataman’s wife, incumbent Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman.
