MANILA, Philippines – It will soon be easier for travelers to reach the “natural spring resort capital” of the country — Calamba, Laguna.

On Monday, October 14, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and Ayala Greenfield Development Corporation (AGDC) broke ground for the Ayala Greenfield Interchange project. The actual construction of the project will begin in November 2024.

The interchange will connect the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Toll Road 3 (TR3) to local roads.

Once opened, it will provide easier access to SLEX and the STAR Tollway. The interchange will also help decongest some roads and allow motorists to travel quicker.

For instance, the Ayala Greenfield Interchange will help make travel between SLEX and Sto. Tomas City in Batangas faster. Travel between Sto. Tomas and Lucena province will also be cut short to 45 minutes from three hours once SLEX Toll Road (TR4) is opened.

“This is part of SMC Infrastructure’s larger initiative to improve and expand our southern tollways network, particularly the [SLEX]. By the end of the year, we expect to turn it into a 6 x 6-lane expressway,” SMC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang said in a statement on Monday, October 14.

“With this, we can better support and sustain the long-term growth of the Calabarzon region.”

AGDC is a joint venture between Ayala Land Incorporated and Greenfield Group. It is the developer behind Ayala Greenfield Estates — a 550-hectare AyalaLand Premier residential community in Calamba.

Residents of the upscale village and its neighboring communities will be among those who will benefit once the interchange is launched.

“We are not simply breaking ground on a new infrastructure project; we are laying the foundation for enhanced connectivity and growth, enriching the lives of the communities that we serve,” Ayala Land Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said.

“The Ayala Greenfield Interchange is a symbol of our shared vision to build a better and more vibrant future for the City of Calamba, for this generation, and for generations to come.” – Rappler.com
