The United Bangsamoro Justice Party’s bets file their certificates of candidacy a day after their rivals from Serbisyong Inklusibo-Alyansang Progresibo

MARAWI, Philippines – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s party fielded on Thursday, November 7, its complete slate for the 2025 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in Lanao del Sur on Thursday, November 7.

Candidates of the MILF’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) for the parliamentary district seats of the province submitted their papers to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) together.

Their COC filing was done with fanfare, with many of their relatives and supporters accompanying them.

Their political opponents from the Serbisyong Inklusibo-Alyansang Progresibo (SIAP), a party led by Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr., filed their COCs a day earlier, also with much fanfare.

The UBJP and SIAP, which is allied with the Bangsamoro Grand Coalition (BGC), are two of the biggest political groups which would be clashing head-on in the first parliamentary elections of the five-year-old region set for 2025.

In Lanao del Sur, including Marawi City, eight parliamentary district seats are up for grabs in next year’s elections.

Those who filed their COCs for Lanao del Sur’s eight BARMM parliament seats under UBJP include:

  • Abdul Mognie Tomawis, Lanao del Sur’s District1
  • Hamza Gauraki, Lanao del Sur’s District 2
  • James Macaraya, Lanao del Sur’s District 3
  • Lampa Pandi, Lanao del Sur’s District 4
  • Ismael Mama, Lanao del Sur District 5
  • Jamael Balt Papandayan, Lanao del Sur District 6
  • Nordjiana Dipatuan-Ducol, Lanao del Sur District 7
  • Amir Balindong, Lanao del Sur’s District 8

The UBJP was established as a political party by the MILF in 2014, the year when the government and MILF reached a peace settlement and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB).

The 2014 agreement led to the 2019 creation of the region, which is now being governed by MILF chairman and interim Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim and the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). – Rappler.com
