Parties at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) are expected to hammer out a new climate finance goal. The Philippines and other vulnerable countries take an early win after agreements were signed to make the Loss and Damage Fund fully operational.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s recent election victory cast a long shadow over the negotiations. John Podesta, the White House’s climate diplomat, had called the result “bitterly disappointing” when he spoke on the first day the summit.
