BAKU, Azerbaijan – The United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, is nearing its end but countries are still sharply divided over the new climate finance goal to help developing countries cope with climate change.
At the start of the conference, United Nations climate chief Simon Stiell reminded developed countries that climate finance is not “charity” and that the new collective quantified goal on climate finance is in the “self-interest of every single nation, including the largest and the wealthiest.”
This year’s climate talks sets the stage for COP30 in Brazil, which many consider the inflection point of global climate action.
