MANILA, Philippines — Medal of Valor awardee Ariel Querubin on Monday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC), making his application for senator via the 2025 midterm elections official.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong accompanied Querubin when he lodged his COC at the Manila Hotel Tent City. Querubin would be running under the Nacionalista Party.

Querubin hit the headlines in 2006, for his role in a standoff at the Marines headquarters as he tried to protect military officers from being removed from service after a foiled coup against then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo following the “Hello Garci” scandal.
