MANILA, Philippines – P-pop group BINI  continues to set new milestones with their recent nomination for the Best Asia Act at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).

MTV released the list of nominees on Tuesday, October 8, and BINI was confirmed to represent the Philippines in the category.

“We’ve got some sweet news. BINI has just been nominated for MTV EMAs Best Asia Act,” MTV Asia announced.

The eight-piece act will be competing against four other nominees: ILLIT (South Korea), Mahalini (Indonesia), Masdo (Malaysia), and Sakurazaka46 (Japan).

This marks BINI’s first nomination in MTV EMAs. They’re also the lone Filipino act to be nominated.

Fans can vote for BINI on MTV EMA’s website until November 6. Ten votes per day per account will be allowed. The awards night will happen in the United Kingdom on November 10 (November 11 in the Philippines) and will be broadcast live on MTV channels.

EMAs added the Best Southeast Asia Act award to the EMAs in 2013. Local EMA categories provide viewers and fans the chance to pick the best local act in their region.

Past Filipino nominees include SB19, Ben&Ben, Nadine Lustre, James Reid, Moira dela Torre, and Sarah Geronimo. Geronimo was nominated thrice, and won the award in 2014.

Meanwhile, 2024 has been a monumental year for BINI. They rose to fame with recent releases “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” and “Cherry on Top.”

They joined the Chinese variety program Show It All in March with fellow P-pop girl group G22.

In August, BINI was given the “Voices of Asia” award alongside SB19 at Billboard Korea’s K POWER 100 event. They’re also the lone Filipina act featured in Grammy’s “12 Rising Groups To Know Now.”

Composed of Jhoanna, Maloi, Stacey, Aiah, Colet, Gwen, Mikha, and Sheena, BINI made their debut under ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy program in 2021 with the song “Born to Win.”

The group is also set to stage their Grand BINIverse concert at the Araneta Coliseum on November 16 and 17. – Rappler.com
