MANILA, Philippines — Over 230,000 individuals rushed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday for the last day of voter registration.
Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said they logged a total of 233,330 registrants as of 6:45 p.m.
Most of the registrants were in Calabarzon at 33,749, followed by Central Luzon at 27,196.
Additionally, 20,433 registrants were logged in Metro Manila, which logged the third biggest number of registrants.
Garcia noted that last-minute registrants flocked to different Comelec offices.
“Our voter registration was successful; we have accomplished our projection of almost three million [voter registrants],” Garcia said in an ambush interview.

However, he said that there are 5.37 million deactivated voters.
“We did not expect it to be that big,” he noted.
Garcia also said he could not yet provide the total number of registered voters since an Election Registration Board will process the voter applications on Oct. 13.
Voter registration will resume by around July or August next year, Garcia said.
