COP29 partners linked to Azerbaijan’s ruling clan


We talk to journalist Ilya Lozovsky on OCCRP’s investigation linking Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s family and inner circle to COP29’s official partners

MANILA, Philippines – The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), the biggest climate summit of the year, has been criticized for being held in an authoritarian country with a fossil fuel legacy.

A recent investigation from the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) showed that the summit’s official corporate partners are linked to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s family and inner circle. 

Rappler environment reporter Iya Gozum talks to OCCRP journalist Ilya Lozovsky on how the corporate links to Azerbaijan’s ruling clan can affect the integrity of the summit and how hosting COP29 can encourage a positive international image.
