Near the end of the concert, ZEROBASEONE prepared a cover of Maki’s ‘Dilaw’ as a ‘special gift’ to Filipino fans for their love and support
MANILA, Philippines – K-pop boy group ZEROBASEONE got a glimpse of the energy of a Filipino crowd when they attended the 2023 Asian Artist Awards (AAA). Less than a year later, the group gets to greet and perform in front of ZEROSEs in Manila.
The nine-member group returned to the Philippines for their TIMELESS WORLD tour at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, October 12. Member Gyuvin shared during the opening segment that he was “super happy and proud” to come back to the country for a solo concert.
“I was really sad that I couldn’t be here last time. So finally, I’m so excited,” Ricky said. The Chinese member had to miss the AAAs due to visa issues.
ZEROBASEONE started their concert with powerful performances of B-side tracks “Road Movie,” “Take My Hand,” “New Kidz on the Block,” and “KILL THE ROMEO.”
The group also got to perform their singles “In Bloom,” “CRUSH,” “SWEAT,” and “Feel the POP” during the concert.
The nine members got their time to shine through solo and unit stages. Zhang Hao performed his solo song “Always,” Matthew, Gunwook, Ricky, and Jiwoong showed their sexy side with “Over Me,” while Gyuvin, Yujin, Hanbin, and Taerae were oozing boy next door charisma with “Switch”.
ZEROBASEONE also transported back in time when they were contestants in the survival show Boys Planet with their versions of “En Garde,” “Say My Name,” “Hot Summer,” and the signal song “Here I Am”.
Gunwook shared that more than a year after joining the show and his debut as a member of ZEROBASEONE, he noticed how “the chemistry between the members has gotten better, so our performances have gotten better too.”
Before the encore, the group capped off the first half of the TIMELESS WORLD tour with their latest single “GOOD SO BAD.” The nine members fed off the energy from Filipino ZEROSEs as they consecutively performed the song’s final chorus five times after fans chanted “Isa pa (One more time).”
Time for ‘special gifts’
ZEROBASEONE and Filipino ZEROSEs, likewise, had surprises prepared for the TIMELESS WORLD concert.
Filipino ZEROSEs sang along to “Our Season” before ZEROBASEONE moved on to the encore portion of the show. Local fanbases ZB1 Philippines and ZEROSE PHILIPPINES also prepared rose petal confetti, achieved through fan donations, that would fall during the concert.
“We had really pretty flower petals falling to us. And I heard that our ZEROSE prepared for us like a gift. It was so pretty and it made us so happy during the performance. Thank you,” Ricky said.
A banner also rolled down from the lower box section that read: “Every moment that we spend together will bloom into a love that will last forever.”
ZEROBASEONE also showed their love for the Filipino fans through different ways. During photo time, Filipino ZEROSEs chanted “Eyy” to ask the group to do the “eyy” pose, popularized by BINI member Sheena.
Gyuvin noticed the gesture and some members did the pose for a video.
Meanwhile, the group also prepared a cover of Maki’s “Dilaw” as a “special gift” to Filipino fans as they got to travel and improve their skills through the TIMELESS WORLD tour.
“We will do our best to give back all the love that we received from ZEROSE with even more gifts in the future. So please keep looking forward to it and continue supporting us,” Matthew said.
Maki later reacted to the cover in a social media post with a reaction photo of Gunwook smiling and crying at the same time.
Recharged by Filipino crowd
During their final messages, the ZEROBASEONE members praised the Manila crowd’s energy and noise during the concert.
“I don’t wanna go home too. Thank you for making a lot of noise,” Gyuvin said after ZEROSEs chanted “walang uuwi (No one goes home)”.
“I believe that our pride is very important. But you guys right now here with me tonight are my pride. So I hope you all are happy and I promise that I’ll do better and work harder to also bring back this joy,” Jiwoong added.
Taerae and Zhang Hao were impressed by the fans’ “passion,” while leader Hanbin thanked the Manila crowd for “recharging our energy.”
The TIMELESS WORLD concert ended with the Korean version of ZEROBASEONE’s Japanese single “Yura Yura,” “And I,” “Sunday RIDE,” and “HELLO.”
After performing “HELLO,” the nine members went around the stage to greet and interact with Filipino ZEROSEs for the final time.
ZEROBASEONE left the stage showing why they are one of the rising groups in K-pop, promising they will work harder and return to the Philippines as better artists. – Rappler.com
