MANILA, Philippines – The House good government committee convened on Wednesday morning, September 18, to discuss a lawmaker’s privilege speech on the alleged misuse of public funds by Vice President Sara Duterte, but after over six hours, it became clear that the hearing was the start of the congressional inquiry into the dealings of the country’s number two.
The Vice President made a surprise appearance during Wednesday’s proceedings, but she refused to take her oath to tell nothing but the truth, questioned the legitimacy of the probe, and accused lawmakers yet again of plotting her impeachment.
After the panel denied her request to terminate the hearing, she requested that she be allowed not to finish the inquiry, depriving lawmakers the chance to ask her the burning questions on her utilization of public funds.
