The City of Smiles sets an example of how sports and tourism can intertwine

BACOLOD, Philippines –  HOMESTRETCH visits Bacolod City, where host Pâto Gregorio used to spend summer vacations as a kid. Gregorio and Homestretch staff are welcomed to the City of Smiles by the vibrant masks of MassKara Festival.

Aside from the art festival and the incredible art culture, this episode also features a sport that is well-loved in the city – football. Gregorio talks to Bacolod-raised football athlete Bethany Talbot – who has since played for the Philippine national team and the University of the Philippines. She shares her love for her city and her sport, and how that passion has evolved over time.

Bacolod Representative Greg Gasataya also talks about how sports and tourism intertwine in the city, and how Bacolod has captured the hearts of many.

HOMESTRETCH aims to tell the stories of people that inspire us with their struggles and triumphs, and the places that help define our spirit as a nation.

Co-presented by Rappler and Duckworld, HOMESTRETCH is hosted by sportsman and tourism advocate Pató Gregorio.
