Philip Salvador files candidacy to clinch Senate seat

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Phillip Salvador is trying his luck to become a senator, formalizing his candidacy on Thursday.

Salvador filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Manila Hotel’s Tent City, following his endorsement by the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino.

The 71-year-old Salvador is a member of the popular show biz family that includes his deceased father Lou Salvador, siblings Alona Alegre, Mina Aragon, Leroy Salvador, Lou Salvador Jr., and several nephews and nieces as well as celebrity in-laws.

In 2006, the Las Piñas regional trial court convicted Salvador of estafa and sentenced him to 20 years in prison in connection with a suit filed by his former girlfriend, businesswoman Cristina Decena.

But a resolution issued by Judge Ma. Concepcion Billones of the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 62 junked the estafa case filed by Decena, saying the evidence filed by Decena’s camp against Salvador was insufficient.

In 2016, Salvador tried but failed to become the vice governor of Bulacan as he was excluded from the province’s voters’ list days before the local elections.
