‘It is certainly not a matter of replacing one with the other,’ says Pope Francis at the historic Synod on Synodality
MANILA, Philippines – How should Catholic clergymen and laypersons regard each other?
During the Synod on Synodality at the Vatican, Pope Francis warned against the danger of “pitting the hierarchy against the lay faithful,” as he proposed a way by which they can work together.
“It is certainly not a matter of replacing one with the other, rallying to the cry: ‘Now it is our turn!’ No, this does not work. ‘Now it is up to we the lay faithful,’ ‘now it is up to we priests.’ No, this does not work,” said the 87-year-old pontiff.
The Pope addressed this issue during his speech at the second session of the Synod on Synodality, a historic gathering of bishops and non-bishops to discuss the future of the Catholic Church.
