‘Hopefully, we make our own adjustments in time,’ says Adamson coach Nash Racela as the Falcons aim to replicate the UE Red Warriors’ inspiring run

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson suffered its last heartbreak against UE, but coach Nash Racela said the Falcons might as well see the Red Warriors as an inspiration.

Racela hopes his Falcons could emulate the Red Warriors’ first-round feat, where they rose from a 0-2 start and pulled off upsets for an unlikely five-game winning streak in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

“Just like UE, I hope we make our own run,” said Racela, following the Falcons’ painful loss to the Red Warriors, 63-62, off a Wello Lingolingo buzzer-beater.

The red-hot Warriors, who aim to reclaim old glory after more than a decade of struggle, finished the first round at third with a 5-2 record, just behind defending champion La Salle (6-1) and last season’s runner-up UP (6-1).

So the Falcons, sitting outside the top four with a 3-4 slate, think the Warriors’ early success can be a blueprint for the second round.

“Hopefully, we get more wins. UE was able to do that so they become our inspiration. Hopefully, we have a UE-esque second round,” Racela said.

The Falcons started the season with a win versus the FEU Tamaraws, followed by a loss in a squeaker against the NU Bulldogs.

Adamson then absorbed alternating results in the succeeding games before ending the round on a two-game skid.

Sticking to the positives, Racela hopes Adamson could build on the close outings they had in the first round, including the loss against UE, and the overtime win against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

“Looking at the bright side, we lost four games but a lot of those were really close games,” said Racela.

“Even the wins that we had were really close, which means every game, we had a chance. We always put ourselves in a great position to compete and try to get wins,” he added.

With just one game behind the fourth seed UST (4-3), Racela remains upbeat of their Final Four chances as they jostle for position for a playoff spot.

“Anything is still possible. The good thing about it is we are just one game behind the number four, and two games behind UE,” Racela said.
