Vice President Sara Duterte holds a news briefing at the House of Representatives as she awaits the resumption of the lower chamber’s probe into her alleged fund misuse
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte holds a press conference at the House of Representatives on Monday, November 25, after the House good government committee suspended its hearing on her alleged fund misuse.
The House panel suspended the hearing for about an hour to allow lawmakers to listen to Speaker Martin Romualdez’s speech on Duterte’s threat against him, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at the session hall.
On early Saturday, November 23, Duterte held a press conference online where she said that she had arranged the assassination of Marcos, the First Lady, and Romualdez, in the event that she is killed. She later backtracked on her statement, but Malacañang said such a threat must be taken seriously.
Marcos condemned the Vice President’s threat on Monday, describing her inflammatory words as “disturbing.” He said that Duterte’s “criminal attempt cannot be allowed to happen. I will fight that.”
The Vice President’s Saturday outburst was sparked by the House order to move OVP chief of staff Zuleika Lopez from House detention to the Women’s Correctional Prison in Mandaluyong. She was cited in contempt for attempting to block the release of OVP-related COA reports to the House committee investigating Duterte’s alleged misuse of public funds. – Rappler.com
