MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection on Wednesday.
Marcos filed her COC at the Manila Hotel Tent City as her supporters camped outside.
Several dozen of Marcos’ supporters showed up, wearing red shirts, carrying placards and banners bearing her name.
Some of them arrived wearing traditional Cordillera attire of embroidered loincloths and feather hats.
The sister of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. first became a senator in 2019, under the party of her brother’s predecessor Rodrigo Duterte’s PDP-Laban.

Marcos was initially included in the present administration’s senate slate, but she announced her withdrawal from the group on Monday to avoid “hurting” her “friends.”

The senator sought to maintain close ties with Vice President Sara Duterte despite the perceived rift between her and the Marcos administration.
“It’s a tremendous sacrifice to stand alone,” Marcos said in a press conference.
