Defending champion FEU Cheering Squad eyes a third title in four seasons, while perennial contenders NU Pep Squad and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe look to recapture the crown

MANILA, Philippines – The date for the keenly awaited UAAP Season 87 Cheerdance Competition has been set to unfold on December 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Defending champion FEU Cheering Squad eyes a third title in four seasons, with perennial contenders NU Pep Squad and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe looking to unseat it from the top.

“The UAAP CDC for this season promises bigger, better, and more spectacular performances from all eight schools as they prepare stronger, better, and together for one of the league’s biggest events,” said tournament director Rod Roque, who is UE’s representative to the UAAP board of managing directors.

After falling short of its title-retention bid last year, NU is out to reclaim its throne and capture a league-tying eighth championship.

UST and the UP Pep Squad, meanwhile, aim to end a year-long title drought as they get a chance to break their tie at the top of the all-time standings.

Also expected to be in the medal mix is the Adamson Pep Squad, which finished fourth last season.

Here is the order of performance as released by the UAAP on Wednesday, November 6:

  1. Ateneo
  2. UE
  3. UST
  4. Adamson
  5. UP
  6. NU
  7. DLSU
  8. FEU

The performance order was determined on Wednesday morning at the press center of the Mall of Asia Arena, with FEU coach Randell San Gregorio saying he’s “happy” that his squad will close out the highly anticipated show.

“They already know how it feels like to step on that mat and  it should bring them confidence,” San Gregorio said in Filipino.

“But other than that, every year, new team, new theme. We don’t repeat. I think the best thing that we can bring to the competition is the experience, we’ve been here, so that’s it.” – Rappler.com
